November 25, 2018, will be remembered as a day when a Tuk Tuk operator in Nakuru took matters into his own hands against two police officers who he claimed had assaulted him.
The incident, which has sparked a heated debate on social media, began when the Tuk Tuk operator, who has chosen to remain anonymous, was transporting three passengers to Nakuru town.
According to the operator, he was stopped by two police officers at a roadblock, and as he was slowing down to stop, one of the officers hit his side mirror and smashed the windscreen.
The operator claims that he had to defend himself against the officers, who he believed were intimidating him because of their government uniform.
‘I decided enough was enough and had to fight what I believed to be unjust and unfair cops who were intimidating me because they were in Government uniform. We exchanged blows and after I overpowered them, they picked stones and hurled at me. I had to get into my tuk tuk and try to confuse them by changing direction,’ he said.
The incident has sparked a heated debate on social media, with some people defending the Tuk Tuk operator's actions and others condemning him.
The Director of Public Prosecution, Noordin Haji, has said that action should be taken against the Tuk Tuk driver.
