On November 15, 2019, a KCSE candidate from Memba Mixed Secondary School in Rarieda, Siaya County, died after completing his Biology practical paper.

According to Siaya County Director of Education Joseph Wamocho, the student, Fredrick Juma, sat for the exam during the morning hours and reportedly completed the paper without any difficulty.

However, he started complaining to his colleagues that he was feeling unwell and later collapsed. Fellow students sounded the alarm, and the school administration rushed him to the nearby St. Mary's Lwak Mission hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The KCSE examinations were scheduled to end on November 27, but the cause of Juma's death remains unclear.

Radio Ramogi reported that the County Director told them that the boy's death was a tragic incident that has left the community in shock.
