President Uhuru Kenyatta has unveiled a team of 11 leaders to spearhead the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) project in the Mt Kenya region, as part of his efforts to rally the region behind the handshake.

At a recent meeting in Sagana, the President named Maina Kamanda, a Jubilee nominated Member of Parliament, as the chairperson of the BBI team. Gathoni wa Muchomba, the Kiambu County women representative, will serve as his deputy.

The remaining nine members of the team are:

  • Hon Jamleck Kamau (Muranga)
  • Governor Anne Waiguru (Kirinyaga)
  • Hon Kabando wa Kabando (Nyeri)
  • Governor Francis Kimemia (Nyandarua)
  • Governor Lee Kinyanjui (Nakuru)
  • Hon Wachira Karani (Laikipia)
  • Hon Maoka Maore (Meru)
  • Senator Njeru Ndwiga (Embu)
  • Hon Petkay Miriti (Tharaka Nithi)

President Kenyatta is also meeting with rebel leaders allied to Deputy President William Ruto in the region, as he seeks to win them over to the BBI cause.
