On November 15, 2019, the Taita-Taveta County Assembly's appointment committee grilled Governor Granton Samboja's nominees for county executive positions.

The six nominees, including a woman, struggled to explain their mandate and contributions to the community.

Among those vetted were Director of Administration Munyembo Mwachala, Dr. Cromel Mwakirungu (Health Services nominee), Andrew Mlawasi (Finance and Economic Planning), and Julius Mwandawiro Mghanga (Lands, Mining, and Housing).

Others who appeared for approval hearings were Ms. Milka Nyambura Righa (Trade, Tourism, Gender, Culture, and Cooperatives) and Mr. Laban Mwashighadi (Youth, Sports, Vocational Training, and Social Services).

Dr. Mwakirungu, a former KDF officer, assured the committee that he would address health workers' grievances to prevent industrial action, corruption, and theft of drugs in county hospitals.
