Published on November 15, 2019, England's Joe Gomez faced a tough welcome when he came on as a substitute in the team's 7-0 win over Montenegro at Wembley.

Ben Chilwell, a member of the England squad, has spoken out in support of Gomez, who was booed by fans following a row with Raheem Sterling earlier in the week.

The incident is believed to have been sparked by lingering tensions from a clash between Sterling and Gomez during Liverpool's Premier League match against Manchester City on Sunday.

With Sterling sidelined, Gomez was subjected to jeers from the England fans when he entered the game in the second half.

Both Sterling and England manager Gareth Southgate condemned the crowd's reaction, with Chilwell emphasizing that no player deserves to be abused by their own fans.

"I have known Joe for a long time and it's not nice to hear that sort of thing," Chilwell said.

"No one deserves to get booed, everyone is behind Joe. He's a great player and a great guy, and we all support everyone," he added.

Chilwell also expressed his desire for the fans to get behind the entire team, stating that everyone in the squad is supportive of Gomez and that he's a strong character.

"He played well when he came on, and we're all behind him," Chilwell said.
