On November 15, 2019, a car accident on the Kapsabet Road nearly claimed the life of Elisha Oraro, the Acting Kisumu County Assembly Speaker.
Oraro's car collided with a cow in Mosoriot area on Friday as he was headed for an assembly meeting in Eldoret.
Fortunately, Oraro escaped with his life, thanks to the quick response of Kondele ward MCA Joachim Oketch, who rushed him to the hospital.
Oraro's ascent to the Speaker's seat has been marred with controversy, with warring factions clashing over his legitimacy.
Just a few months prior, in September 2019, a similar fracas erupted at the County Assembly over the Ksh. 2.1 billion Lake Basin mall scandal.
Onyango Oloo, the incumbent Speaker, was at the center of the controversy, with a section of MCAs demanding that he step aside.
However, Oloo's allies were keen to block the agenda, leading to a heated exchange of blows inside the chambers.
Despite the chaos, Oraro was eventually sworn in as the new Speaker, bringing an end to the tumultuous session.
