On November 12, 2019, a shocking incident unfolded in a rented house in Murandi, Embakasi Sub County, Nairobi. Penina Muthoni Maina, a 33-year-old taxi driver, returned home from her shift at JKIA to find her door locked from the inside.

Expecting her husband, Dominic Komen alias Victor Korir, to be away on night shift, Penina peeped through the window and was met with a disturbing sight: her husband in bed with another woman.

When Penina demanded to be let in to collect her belongings, Komen refused, instead starting to throw her clothes out of the house. The situation escalated when Komen stormed out and began assaulting Penina, slapping her in the face and strangulating her before attempting to throw her down the staircase.

Fortunately, neighbours intervened, and Komen was later arrested after Penina sought treatment and reported the incident to the police.

On November 15, 2019, Komen appeared before senior principal magistrate Angelo Kithinji, where he denied the charges. He was released on a cash bail of Sh20, 000 and the case will be heard on March 17, 2020.
