On November 15, 2019, Kisumu County Assembly acting Speaker Elisha Oraro narrowly escaped death after a car accident on the Kapsabet Road.
According to eyewitnesses, his car hit a cow in Mosoriot area as he was headed for an assembly meeting in Eldoret.
Joachim Oketch, Kondele ward MCA, who was in a different vehicle, rushed Oraro to the hospital.
Oraro's ascent to the Speaker's seat has been marred with controversy, following a clash between warring factions over his legitimacy.
Earlier in September 2019, a section of MCAs demanded that the incumbent Speaker Onyango Oloo step aside over the Ksh. 2.1 billion Lake Basin mall scandal.
However, Oloo's allies seemed keen to block the agenda and ended up exchanging blows inside the chambers.
