On November 15, 2019, the Lamu County Assembly made significant strides in supporting children with autism in the county.
MCAs unanimously passed a motion presented by nominated MCA Jane Wanjiku Ndung'u, calling for the establishment of special classrooms for autistic learners and early diagnosis of autism.
The motion also sought to establish a committee to address non-compliance and ensure accessible and effective interventions for learners with autism.
Additionally, the assembly passed a motion to adopt a Kiswahili version of the county assembly's standing orders, tabled by nominated MCA Amina Kale.
Kiswahili is the primary language in East Africa and Lamu County, making it essential for the county assembly's documents to be translated into the language.
