FKF Denies Forging Document to Defraud Government Millions ¶
On November 15, 2019, the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) found itself at the center of a controversy surrounding a KSh 4 million accommodation bill for the Harambee Stars team in Egypt.
The team was set to face off against the Egyptian national team in a 2021 Africa Cup of Nations Group G Qualifier match, but the FKF was accused of attempting to defraud the government by sending a preliminary invoice for the accommodation costs.
According to FKF CEO Barry Otieno, the invoice sent to the government was a preliminary document and not the final copy. He stated that a final invoice would be issued at the end of the team's stay in Alexandria.
However, an independent report by Citizen TV revealed that the actual cost of the accommodation would have been significantly lower if the players and officials had shared rooms and taken advantage of the hotel's full board package.
FKF's defense of the preliminary invoice has raised questions about the authenticity of the document and the true intentions of the federation.
