Residents of Embakasi estate in Nairobi are facing a water crisis after the Kenya Pipeline Company (KPC) warned them to avoid using tap water due to contamination.
As of Friday, investigations into the source of the contamination were still underway, according to KPC Corporate and Communications officer Kasujaa Onyonyi.
"The Nairobi City Water & Sewerage Company has sent officials to the site to test the water, and we are still waiting for lab results," Onyonyi said.
Several people have sought treatment in various hospitals after experiencing symptoms such as diarrhea, prompting KPC to caution residents, particularly those with children, to seek medical attention if affected.
Although the cause of the contamination remains unknown, KPC has made arrangements to provide clean water for Embakasi residents as they await the laboratory results.
The Nairobi Water and Sewerage Company has yet to issue a statement on the situation.
