Published on November 15, 2019, a disturbing trend has emerged in the music industry, where artists are being shortchanged on royalties.

Laika, a Kenyan artiste, took to Twitter to express her outrage after being paid a paltry 45 Kshs in royalties by online music distributor Ngomma VAS.

She questioned the logic behind sending her such a small amount, which is barely enough to cover the cost of a matatu fare in Nairobi.

Laika also broke down the costs of producing music, including the cost of shooting a music video, and highlighted the stark contrast between the expenses and the meager royalties she receives.

Her experience is a stark reminder of the need for fair compensation for artists and the importance of addressing the royalty crisis in the music industry.
