On November 11, 2019, a 78-year-old man in Maryland, U.S., was robbed at his home after withdrawing a large amount of money from the bank.

The suspect, identified as 19-year-old Nathan Michael Newell from Bel Air, forced his way into the house at around 8:30 pm, assaulting the man until a relative intervened.

According to authorities, the suspect ran upstairs while the woman went to a nearby home to call the police, but by the time they arrived, the invader had already made away with an unknown amount of money.

Further investigation led police to connect the home invasion to the large bank withdrawal, and Newell was arrested on Wednesday at the bank where the withdrawal had been made.

He has been charged with robbery, first- and third-degree burglary, first- and second-degree assault, and home invasion.

Freedom Federal Credit Union has since fired Newell, citing that a background check during recruitment did not reveal any red flags.

Both victims suffered injuries, with the 78-year-old being taken to the John Hopkins Bayview Medical Center in Maryland, and his relative receiving treatment for minor injuries at the scene.
