Published on November 15, 2019, a remarkable story of survival emerged from the US east coast, where three cows were swept into the ocean by Hurricane Dorian in September.
The storm, which struck on September 6, created a 'mini-tsunami' that swept cattle and wild horses from Cedar Island into the ocean. The cows, belonging to a free-range herd, were later found living on a string of sandy islands miles away from their home.
According to the Charlotte Observer, the bovine trio swam an estimated four to five miles (six to 10 kilometers) before placing hoof on land, where they were discovered by park rangers at the Cape Lookout National Seashore.
The cows, identified by their keeper Woody Hancock, will likely be sedated and sent home on a boat, a Park spokeswoman told the Observer.
