Eric Omondi's Journey to Comedy Stardom ¶
Comedian Eric Omondi's rise to fame is a testament to his hard work and determination. However, few people know about his humble beginnings, where he struggled to make ends meet.
As he narrated in an interview with Milele FM, Eric Omondi's life was not always glamorous. He recalled the days when he would board matatus, just like any other ordinary Kenyan.
Eric Omondi's struggles were not limited to his financial situation. He also faced the challenge of being recognized as a public figure. In an interview, he shared his experience of being mistaken for a celebrity while boarding a matatu.
“5 months after I joined Churchill Show, I became very famous but was so broke. Whenever I went to board a matatu, people would think I'm shooting something,” Eric Omondi recalled.
It was during this time that Eric Omondi approached his boss, Mwalimu Churchill, for guidance. Churchill's advice helped Eric Omondi's career take a different turn.
“Everytime I would ask Churchill 'Why don't I have money yet people think I'm rich?' He advised me to get a manager who would help me secure shows, where I would perform and make money,” Eric Omondi shared.
Today, Eric Omondi is a thriving comedian, but he has not forgotten his humble beginnings. He has a message for upcoming talents: the importance of having a mentor to guide them.
“Upcoming comedians and even musicians need mentors. Someone to guide them,” Eric Omondi emphasized.
