Kibicho's Mt Kenya Summit Sparks Tanga Tanga Tensions

November 15, 2019

Despite fierce opposition from Tangatanga lawmakers, Karanja Kibicho remains a trusted ally of President Uhuru Kenyatta, according to sources.

The Interior PS is reportedly behind the organization of a summit between the President and lawmakers from the Mt Kenya region, set to take place in Sagana, Nyeri County, on November 15.

According to People Daily, Kibicho has been working closely with county commissioners to invite key political and social leaders from the Mt Kenya region to the summit.

Lawmakers from the Tangatanga faction have been vocal in their criticism of Kibicho, accusing him of using his position to undermine Deputy President William Ruto's 2022 ambitions.

Following the Kibra by-election, the Tangatanga faction had accused Kibicho and Interior CS Fred Matiang'i of colluding with ODM leader Raila Odinga to undermine Ruto's chances.

The Mt Kenya summit has sparked concerns within the Kieleweke and Tanga Tanga factions, with many waiting to see how President Kenyatta will position himself.

Initially, it was thought that only Kieleweke lawmakers would be invited to the summit, but it has since been revealed that leaders from all Mt Kenya counties will be in attendance.
