Huawei Launches Y9s in Kenya ¶
On November 14, 2019, Huawei launched the Y9s in Kenya, a smartphone that comes with a 48MP camera, side-mounted fingerprint scanner, and 6GB RAM. The device is priced at KES. 31,999 and is available in the market.
According to Huawei, the Y9s is a repackaging of the Honor 9X, a phone that was announced some months ago. The device has the same processor, display size and quality, Android version, and EMUI version as the Honor 9X. It also has the same amount of storage, 128GB, and the same 16MP pop-up selfie camera.
However, the Y9s has some new features, including a 48MP camera, a side-mounted fingerprint scanner, and a new color option, Breathing Crystal. The device also has a higher price point than the Honor 9X, which is priced at KES. 28,499.
One of the biggest changes in the Y9s is the 48MP camera. From the little interaction during the launch, there's no noticeable change in how one takes pictures, or how the pictures look. However, the level of details in shots must have increased.
The extra lenses remain the same as with the Y9 Prime 2019, which includes one 8MP Ultra-wide sensor, plus a 2MP depth sensor. The pop-up selfie camera is also the same one we saw on the Y9 Prime, a 16MP shooter with fixed focus.
The side-mounted fingerprint scanner is a small change, but it gives the phone a whole different vibe. It is a fast-enough and well-placed scanner, but it may be confusing which finger to register.
