On November 14, 2019, Kenya and Somalia took a significant step towards strengthening their bilateral relations by agreeing to restore the visa on arrival arrangement for citizens of both nations.
The move aims to enhance the free and unhindered movement of people and commerce between the two countries.
The agreement was reached during a meeting between Presidents Uhuru Kenyatta and Mohamed Abdallah Mohamed of the Federal Republic of Somalia on the sidelines of the Nairobi ICPD25 summit.
During the meeting, the two leaders reaffirmed the strong ties between Kenya and Somalia and expressed their commitment to exploring avenues for strengthening bilateral and diplomatic ties between Nairobi and Mogadishu.
President Mohamed conveyed his gratitude to President Kenyatta for Kenya's continued support in AMISOM and for the hospitality accorded to Somali refugees.
The Somali leader also expressed confidence that the maritime boundary dispute between the two countries, currently before the International Court of Justice in The Hague, will be resolved in a mutually acceptable manner.
