On November 14, 2019, Dutch authorities made a breakthrough in the investigation into the murder of former professional soccer player Kelvin Maynard.
Maynard, a 32-year-old defender, was shot dead in September in a southeastern district of Amsterdam when two assailants on a motorbike opened fire on his car.
The suspect, whose identity has not been released, was arrested by Dutch authorities, according to news agency ANP.
Maynard had a history of run-ins with the police, although no details were provided at the time.
He had played for several clubs, including Volendam, Sporting Clube Olhanense, Kecskemeti TE, Antwerp FC, and Burton Albion.
Amsterdam has seen a growing concern over crime, particularly in the city's underworld of dealers and suppliers that fuels violence.
