On November 14, 2019, Elgeyo Marakwet Governor Alex Tolgos was questioned by Ethics and Anti-Corruption (EACC) officials over alleged misappropriation of Ksh200 million.
However, the governor denied being summoned over the alleged misappropriation, stating that the investigation relates to an expenditure of Ksh742,670 for fuel and other petroleum products used by the County Government of Elgeyo Marakwet between 2013 and 2016.
The fuel expenditure was mainly used for ambulance services at Iten County Referral Hospital, Chebiemit and Tambach Sub County Hospitals for emergency evacuation and referral cases.
Despite the governor's office providing EACC with all necessary information and documents, there have been reports of Ksh200 million being misappropriated by the county government.
The governor's latest woes are being seen as politically motivated, with some attributing the hand of Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen, who has been at loggerheads with Governor Tolgos over the construction of Arror and Kimwarer dams.
