On November 14, 2019, a deputy principal and three other teachers were arrested in Samburu North for their alleged involvement in examination malpractices during the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams.

According to Samburu North Sub-County Police Commander Tom Makori, the teachers were caught hiding examination answers in the school toilets.

Police officers had laid a trap after noticing that the deputy principal and an invigilator were frequently visiting the washroom during the exam.

‘It was the invigilator who went to the toilet first and moments later the Deputy Principal followed. They then both left together looking suspicious,’ Mr Makori said.

Further investigation led to the discovery of a piece of paper containing Biology Paper 2 answers in the toilet, prompting the arrest of the deputy principal.

He then took the police officers to his house, where three other Biology teachers were arrested.
