On November 12, 2019, Harun Ndirangu, a 44-year-old man serving two life sentences for violent robberies, attempted to escape from lawful custody at Nakuru Law Courts.
According to the charge sheet, Ndirangu broke loose from another suspect he was shackled with and ran towards the county offices in an attempt to escape. Prison warders were forced to shoot in the air to stop him from escaping.
Ndirangu is facing four robberies with violence cases, including a violent robbery of Sh569,446 from Elizabeth Ngendo at Sumkam Supermarket in Njoro Sub-County, Nakuru on August 30, 2017.
He is also serving a life sentence for robbing three shops and shooting a man on his face with an AK 47 rifle in Nakuru on September 2, 2017.
When he appeared before Chief Magistrate Josephat Kalo, Ndirangu denied the charge of escaping from lawful custody.
