On November 14, 2019, Somali President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo met with the Somali business community in Nairobi, Kenya, to discuss humanitarian assistance for flood-affected citizens.
Heavy torrential rains in the past weeks had caused flash floods in three main regions of Somalia: Hiran, Bakol, and Lower Jubba, affecting over 200,000 people.
President Farmajo, who had attended the United Nations coordinated International Conference on Population and Development, briefed the business community on recent political and security developments in Somalia.
He appealed to the diaspora community to help his government rebuild the Somali embassy in Nairobi, saying, "The diplomatic mission belongs to you; we need you to play a key role in its refurbishment to show the world that we can do it."
The meeting was attended by other government officials, including State Minister for Foreign Affairs Abdulkadir Ahmed Khayr, Health Minister Dr. Fowzia Abikar Nur, and Ambassador Ahmed Nur Tarsan.
