On November 12, 2019, Mombasa County Governor Hassan Ali Joho's cabinet members witnessed the end of their two-year contracts, marking the departure of the entire team from office.
According to officials, the ten Chief Executive Committee (CEC) members, who had served since the inception of devolved county governments in 2013, cleared out of their offices, some appearing anxious about their future despite knowing their contracts were set to expire.
The contracts, which began on November 12, 2017, and ended on November 12, 2019, indicated a two-year tenure for the CECs.
Despite the departure of the entire cabinet, officials assured that the county's daily operations and service delivery would not be hindered or slowed down under the devolved government.
Reports indicate that Governor Joho is expected to reconstitute his government in the coming days or weeks, with some CECs potentially being retained in the expected changes and new nominees to be vetted by the county government assembly.
