Published on November 14, 2019, details have emerged of how opposition leader Raila Odinga brokered a truce between his family and daughter-in-law Lwam Bekele, averting a public court drama.

At the center of the dispute is the administration of the late Fidel Odinga's estate, with Raila's family caught up in a tussle with Lwam Bekele.

According to reports, Raila's intervention convinced the parties involved to amicably solve the matter out of court, saving the respected family from public ridicule.

As a seasoned peace negotiator, Raila has successfully led efforts to reconcile warring leaders, including South Sudan President Salva Kiir and rebel leader Riek Machar.

However, the ongoing legal feud had raised concerns that rivals of the veteran politician were banking on it as a campaign tool against Raila ahead of the 2022 election campaigns.

High Court Judge Justice Aggrey Muchelule has given Ida Odinga and Lwam Bekele two weeks to reach an agreement in Fidel's property case, with the next court mention set for November 27.
