On November 14, 2019, a tragic incident shook the entertainment industry in Kenya when comedian Anthony Njenga alias Njenga Mswahili was found dead on a rail track in Dagoretti.
According to Eric Omondi, a close friend of the late comedian, Njenga had been struggling with depression for the past three years.
Speaking in an interview, Omondi revealed that the deceased had occasionally sought help during his darkest times but was often ignored by those around him, including himself.
"The last time I bumped into him, he told me that he had gotten saved, and was preaching at Junction area in Dagoretti. I asked him to get into the supermarket and pick the things that he needed, which he did. I settled the bill," Omondi said during the interview.
However, Omondi later learnt that Njenga was arrested for theft, which he believed was a sign of the comedian's struggles with depression.
"I was shocked; given I knew he was born again. Much later, I learnt that he was suffering depression," Omondi said.
Omondi partly blamed himself for ignoring the signs of Njenga's struggles, saying that everyone, including himself, was too busy with their own lives to lend a helping hand.
