On November 13, 2019, the United States expressed its disappointment with South Sudan's failure to form a unity government by the November 12 deadline.

US State Department spokeswoman Morgan Ortagus stated that the US would 'reevaluate' its relationship with South Sudan's government and work with the international community to take action against those impeding the peace process.

The US also plans to establish a new paradigm to achieve peace and a successful political transition in South Sudan, in collaboration with other regional actors.
