Deputy President William Ruto's recent social media post has sent shockwaves through the Jubilee party, with many questioning his loyalty to the party.
On November 14, 2019, Ruto took to Twitter to admit that Jubilee belongs to President Uhuru Kenyatta, a statement that has been met with mixed reactions from party members.
"Waheshimiwa, the real SABOTEUR is your master the people's conman who uses deceit to divide/destroy parties even UHURU's Jubilee;the master of chaos who factors violence in election equations;the one who never accepts defeat. We'll stand with UHURU&Jubilee against such dictators," Ruto tweeted.
However, Ruto's statement has been seen as a betrayal by some party members, who feel that he is trying to shift the blame for the party's woes onto ODM leader Raila Odinga.
Junet Mohammed, a close ally of Raila, was quick to respond to Ruto's statement, saying, "A day after Raila is declared winner, you'll wake up and if lucky to find a media microphone before you, you'll still tell him to 'accept defeat'. See, almost a week after Kibra election you're still telling him to 'accept defeat'. You're not even AWARE he WON, and that you LOST"
It's worth noting that Ruto's statement comes at a time when the Deputy President is facing criticism for his handling of the Kibra by-election, which saw his candidate, Macdonald Mariga, lose to ODM's Imran Okoth.
