On November 14, 2019, the KCB Meru Safari Rally took a dramatic turn when Africa rally champion Manvir Baryan's Skoda Fabia crashed during the second leg of the competition.

Baryan, a Kenyan rally car driver, and his English navigator Drew Sturrock were involved in the accident, which occurred when their car hit a rock while negotiating a bend, rolling several times.

The incident forced rally officials to halt the race for about an hour as they debated whether to take Baryan for treatment in Nairobi.

Sturrock was also taken to hospital for checkups, although he had not sustained major injuries.

Despite the setback, Onkar Rai, driving a Volkswagen Polo and navigated by Gavin Laurance, went on to win the rally, with Carl Tundo and Baldev Chager coming in second and third respectively, both driving a Mitsubishi Lancer Evo10.
