Liverpool's Mohamed Salah has been ruled out of Egypt's Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Kenya due to a lingering ankle injury.

The 27-year-old forward was hurt in a match against Leicester City last month and has been experiencing slight discomfort in his left ankle despite making several appearances for Liverpool.

After traveling from England to Alexandria, national squad medical staff assessed Salah's condition and decided to keep him out of the Group G clash against Kenya.

He will also miss the away fixture against the Comoros in Moroni next Monday.

Salah's absence is a significant blow to Egypt, who rely heavily on him for goals.

As the 2017 and 2018 African Footballer of the Year, Salah's presence is crucial for Egypt's chances in the tournament.
