On November 12, 2019, a 27-year-old man was arrested in connection with the murder of his 18-year-old girlfriend, Dorcas Jamilla, a first-year student at Kisumu Polytechnic.

According to police, the couple had a quarrel on Tuesday evening before the suspect fatally stabbed Jamilla in the stomach. The incident occurred along the Kisumu-Kakamega highway near Jamilla's parents' home in Riat.

Witnesses reported hearing screams and rushed to the scene, where they found Jamilla bleeding profusely. She was able to identify her attacker before succumbing to her injuries.

Investigations into the killing have been launched, with officers speaking to the couple's friends and those found at the scene of the crime.

The suspect, a former student at Maseno University, will be held at Kondele Police Station pending a psychiatric test.

Jamilla's mother, Isca Ouma, a second-hand clothes dealer, had warned the suspect against seeing her daughter, citing concerns about his interference with her studies.

On Monday, the suspect had written a long post on his Facebook wall lamenting that Jamilla wanted to dump him, despite the sacrifices he had made for her.
