On November 13, 2019, the Fidel Odinga estate case took a new turn as parties involved sought to settle the multimillion-shilling dispute out of court.
Ms. Lwam Bekele, the widow of the late Fidel Odinga, through her lawyer Rodger Sagana, requested more time to explore the possibility of an out-of-court settlement with the other parties, including Ida Odinga and Winnie Odinga.
Justice Aggrey Muchelule granted the request, giving the parties two weeks to come to an agreement. The matter is set to be mentioned in court on November 27, 2019.
Earlier, on October 16, Justice Muchelule had ordered a DNA test to determine the paternity of twins allegedly fathered by Fidel Odinga. The twins' father, John Swaka, had applied to be included in the case, and his application was granted.
Fidel Odinga, a 41-year-old son of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, was found dead in 2015 after a night out with friends.
