On October 22, 2019, Manchester City midfielder Bernardo Silva sparked controversy with a tweet comparing team mate Benjamin Mendy to a character on a packet of Conguitos.

The tweet was later deleted, but the English FA charged Silva with a breach of FA Rule E3(1) for insulting and/or improper behavior that brought the game into disrepute.

On November 13, 2019, the FA announced that Silva would be suspended for one first-team competitive fixture, fined £50,000, and required to complete face-to-face education.

According to the FA, Silva's tweet included a reference to race and/or colour and/or ethnic origin, which is defined as an 'Aggravated Breach' under FA Rule E3(2).

Manchester City currently occupies fourth position on the Premier League standings, having lost three games this season.

Their last game was a defeat against Liverpool, which sent the Reds nine-points clear on the Premier League standings.
