The Harambee Stars' quest to qualify for the African Cup of Nations is facing a new challenge as players are reportedly on the verge of being kicked out of their hotel in Cairo, Egypt.
According to reports, several players are being evicted from their hotel rooms due to unpaid bills, a situation confirmed by Football Kenya Federation (FKF) secretary general Barry Otieno.
"Since Friday, Ministry officials have been promising they will settle the payment, regrettably this has not happened," Otieno said as quoted by Nation.
The players, including skipper Victor Wanyama and striker Michael Olunga, are currently residing at the hotel, and at least KSh 4 million is needed to settle the outstanding bills.
FKF boss Nick Mwendwa has blamed the Ministry of Sports for allegedly withholding funds meant to cater for the Harambee Stars, calling out the disregard for athletes and players.
"Such level of unseriosness! I can only ask Kenyans to help me call out this disregard for our athletes and players," he tweeted.
The fate of Kenya's performance in their first match en route to qualifying for the AFCON remains in the balance, with odds tilting amazingly to Egypt's side.
