The Kenyan national soccer team, Harambee Stars, is facing a crisis in Egypt ahead of their AFCON 2021 qualifier match against the host nation on November 14.
According to sources, the team has been given a deadline to settle their hotel bills, with the threat of eviction looming large if the payment is not made.
FKF Secretary General, Barry Otieno, revealed that the Ministry of Sports had promised to settle the team's hotel bills on November 8, but the promise has turned out to be empty words.
"We have been given a short time to settle the hotel bills, or else Harambee Stars will be evicted. We don't know what to do now," Otieno said.
He added that the Ministry of Sports had promised to settle the bills, but no action has been taken.
"The Ministry said they would pay the bills on time, but there is no one who has done anything," Otieno said.
One of the team's officials, Rooney Oyando, had traveled ahead of the team and had to use his own money to settle part of the hotel bill, but it was not enough to cover the entire amount.
The team's crisis began when they left Kenya and had to travel for several hours before finally arriving in Egypt, where they were not paid for their flights.
Harambee Stars is currently staying at the Africana Hotel in Alexandria, Egypt.
