On November 12, 2019, a tragic incident occurred at a Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) marking centre in Nairobi, where a teacher died after collapsing.
According to Dr. John Onsati, the chairman of the Kenya National Examinations Council (Knec), the deceased was Robert Kiua Muindi, a teacher at Tusunini Primary School in Makueni County.
Dr. Onsati stated, 'The examiner suddenly fell at a marking centre in Nairobi and was rushed to PCEA Kikuyu Mission Hospital where he was pronounced dead.'
The council has informed the family and subsequently notified the Teachers Service Commission (TSC).
The Kenya National Examinations Council (Knec) has expressed its condolences to the family, friends, relatives, and entire teaching fraternity for the loss of a dedicated professional in the education sector.
The marking of KCPE exams is a complex process, with scripts being marked manually and multiple choice papers being processed through the Optical Mark Recognition (OMR) machine.
