Published on November 13, 2019, Bungoma town is on the cusp of transformation, with the county government embarking on an ambitious plan to develop its infrastructure and attain city status by 2022.
Lands, Housing and Urban Planning Executive Bramwel Murgor revealed that the county had received a Sh340 million grant from the World Bank for an urban support development programme. The funds will be used to improve roads and water connectivity in Bungoma municipality, as well as solid waste management, construction of modern markets, and bus parks.
Mr Murgor also highlighted the county's commitment to completing the 6.5km Musikoma-Kanduyi dual carriageway within 24 months. The dual carriageway, valued at Sh1.38 billion, is expected to enhance accessibility to social amenities and make the county more attractive to investors.
The county is also constructing affordable housing units as part of its efforts to achieve the Big Four Agenda on affordable housing. Mr Murgor stated that the county has already built 84 houses and plans to construct quality habitable permanent units for the poor in every ward.
Additionally, Chwele and Webuye towns are set to be upgraded to Municipal status soon, with the projects expected to be complete by 2021.
