On November 11, 2019, a disturbing video emerged of police officers brutally assaulting an unarmed student at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT). The incident sparked widespread outrage and calls for accountability.
Following the public outcry, the National Police Service Commission (NPSC) has identified three of the four police officers involved in the assault. They are police constables George Wathania, Kibet Chemipei, and Boniface Muthama.
National Police Service Commission Chairman Eliud Kinuthia addressed the media on Wednesday, stating that the fourth officer's identity is still unknown due to the complexity of the image and the need for assurance in the identification process.
The three identified officers have been interdicted to allow for investigations before further disciplinary action is taken against them. However, the timing of the investigation and the conditions of the students who sustained injuries during the protests remain unclear.
As the investigation unfolds, many are left wondering about the circumstances surrounding the incident and the potential consequences for those involved.
