On November 13, 2019, a tragic incident occurred in Homa Bay County, Kenya, where a KCSE candidate lost her life in a hospital.
Belinda Atieno, a 20-year-old student at Nyawita Secondary School in Rangwe Sub-county, had been battling sickle cell anaemia for a long time.
According to the school principal, Mr. George Olueya, Belinda's condition worsened at the beginning of the term, causing her to be frequently absent from school.
Despite her condition, Belinda had managed to sit for all the KCSE exams, but on Tuesday morning, her condition took a turn for the worse.
She was rushed to Nyawita Dispensary, where she took the day's exams, before being transferred to Asumbi Mission Hospital for further treatment.
Later that night, Belinda was transferred to Matata Hospital in Oyugis Town, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
Rangwe Sub-county Police Commander Jane Sang confirmed the incident, stating that the body of the deceased had been moved to Matata Hospital morgue.
