On October 25, 2019, Justice Aggrey Muchelule ordered a DNA test to establish the paternity of the twins, a move that has sparked a heated succession dispute involving Raila Odinga's family.
At the center of the dispute is Lwam Bekele, the widow of Fidel Odinga, Raila's son, who is accused of sidelining the twins he sired with another woman, Phoebe Akinyi Gweno.
Ida Odinga and her daughter Winnie claim that Lwam is aware of the existence of the children but has chosen to sideline them.
Justice Muchelule has given Ida and Lwam Bekele until November 27 to settle the dispute out of court.
Phoebe Akinyi Gweno, the mother of the twins, has been added as an interested party in the case, seeking to clear the air and protect her children's interests.
“Owing to that, she seeks leave of the court to be enjoined as an interested party to clear the air and give her position on the same,” her lawyer John Swaka said in the application.
