Published on November 13, 2019, residents of Trans Nzoia county have raised concerns over the discreet influence of Governor Patrick Khaemba's wife, Lydia, in the county administration.
According to Bukusu elders from Cherangany and Kwanza, Lydia has exerted significant influence in the county ministry of health, particularly in health pilot projects, tenders, and employment.
Residents have expressed disappointment over the recent employment of 31 nurses, with 26 of them hailing from neighboring counties, leaving many to question the county administration's priorities.
Lydia has been accused of taking huge tenders from the health department and influencing the employment of non-residents, shutting out genuine residents of the county.
“She only wants to come in and instruct people from other counties to be employed but not the residents of Trans Nzoia,” said a resident, lamenting the situation.
Trans Nzoia residents have also pointed out the deteriorating level of education in the county, with some junior officers allegedly instructing and giving permission to wage war against the chairman of the workers' union, Samuel Kiboi.
Furthermore, the residents have accused brokers of running Kwanza market and influencing a senior county government officer to give them plots, raising concerns over the governor's association with such individuals.
Residents have urged Governor Khaemba to be cautious of people who are destroying his name and reputation.
