Published on November 13, 2019, Brigid Kosgei, the women's marathon world record holder, has been shortlisted for the 2019 IAAF Female World Athlete of the Year award.
Her impressive year saw her win the London Marathon in 2:18:20 and set a new world record at the Chicago Marathon with a time of 2:14:04.
She will compete against Sifan Hassan of the Netherlands, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce of Jamaica, Dalilah Muhammad of the USA, and Yulimar Rojas of Venezuela for the prestigious award.
Meanwhile, Eliud Kipchoge, widely regarded as the greatest male marathoner of all time, has also been nominated for the Male World Athlete of the Year award.
He made history by becoming the first man to run a marathon in under two hours with a time of 1:59:40 at the INEOS Challenge in Austria.
The awards gala is scheduled to take place on November 23 in Monaco, France.
