November 13, 2019, marked a day of shock and amusement for Kenyans as a new headline claiming President Uhuru Kenyatta said he does not understand why people are broke in the country went viral.

However, it was later revealed that the supposed quote from President Uhuru Kenyatta was a misrepresentation of facts and was blown out of proportion with malicious intent.

According to a senior government official who attended a meeting at State House to address the current crisis of low cash circulation in the economy, the President put them to task over the poor state of the economy.

“The President wondered where all the money being used to construct government projects is going. In fact, he specifically asked us the question: Why are people broke; why is it that there is no money in their pockets?”

The official stated, as reported by the Kenyatta-family owned daily, People Daily.

However, DP Ruto's online attack dogs saw an opportunity to incite the public against President Uhuru so as to gain political mileage.

The push and pull between the two leaders continues to crack the government with claims their relationship is at an all-time low.
