Published on November 13, 2019, Eric Omondi, a renowned Kenyan comedian, has spoken candidly about the challenges of being a celebrity in Kenya.
Speaking in an interview with Milele FM, Omondi revealed that being famous and broke is a tough reality for many public figures.
‘If you’re a public figure or celebrity and struggling in life, it’s easy for you to end up being depressed. You can do bad things such as steal to get your daily bread because you’re popular, and you’ll suffer,’ Omondi said.
Having gained fame through the Churchill Show, Omondi shared that he was broke just five months after joining the platform.
He recalled the difficulties of being recognized in public, with people mistaking him for working on new projects.
‘Whenever I went to board a matatu, people would think I’m shooting something,’ Omondi said.
Omondi expressed gratitude to Churchill, the godfather of Kenyan comedy, for guiding him through the challenges of the industry.
Churchill advised Omondi to get a manager who would help him secure shows and make money.
Omondi emphasized the importance of having a mentor for upcoming comedians and musicians, saying, ‘Someone to guide them.’
