November 13, 2019, marked a day when Raila Odinga Junior, the son of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, found himself at the receiving end of public backlash over his Twitter post remarks.
His comments, which expressed displeasure at the numerous carwash businesses in Lavington Estate, did not sit well with some Kenyans.
On his Twitter handle, Raila Junior wrote, 'At the risk of sounding unpopular, I wish there was a bylaw that made it illegal to wash your car at the roadside in Lavington.' He tagged Dagoretti North MP Simba Arati and Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko in the post.
He further stated that laws and policies apply to everyone and each person should adhere to them.
However, his remarks were met with anger from a section of Kenyans who felt he was out of touch with the struggles of the common man.
Some of the comments from the angry Kenyans included, 'If you knew the level of joblessness out here you wouldn't comment like that. But in any case, you have never known what being jobless is. Those brothers are just trying to earn a living.'
Another comment read, 'A broke Kenyan just trying to make a living!'
Others felt that Raila Junior's comments were insensitive, especially during a time when the nation was grappling with issues of police brutality.
