Published on November 13, 2019, a Nairobi River clean-up exercise has retrieved 17 bodies, including 13 infants, since its inception early last year.

On Tuesday morning, the body of an infant was found in Nairobi's Korogocho slums, bringing the total number of bodies retrieved to 17.

Of the 17 bodies, 13 were infants, and 4 were adults, with the previous body being discovered in September of this year.

Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has called on security agencies to conduct a 24-hour surveillance along the Nairobi River to curb the increased cases of murder and dumping of bodies.

He also urged the police to investigate the mysterious instances of dead bodies being retrieved from the Nairobi River.

“Residential areas around the river are probably home to criminal gangs who are killing and dumping innocent people in the river. We must find solutions. It is a security threat and we have to work closely with the police,” Sonko said.
