On June 30, a body was found in a garden at Offerton Road, Clapham, south London, after it fell from the landing compartment of a Kenya Airways plane about to land at Heathrow Airport.
Following the discovery, a bag with food and clothes was found at the rear left landing gear of the KQ aircraft.
Despite efforts to identify the body, the cause of death remained a mystery until Sky News conducted an investigation, which revealed that the stowaway was Paul Manyasi, a 32-year-old cleaner who worked for Colnet, a company providing services to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.
Manyasi's girlfriend, Irene, who wished to remain anonymous, told Sky News that she had last seen him at work on June 30, when he suddenly disappeared.
'The last time I saw him, we were at work, he suddenly disappeared, nobody knows where he went,' she said.
Manyasi's parents, Isaac and Janet, were also interviewed by Sky News, and they revealed that they had last heard from him at the beginning of July.
However, they stated that they could not afford to bring his body back home for burial, saying 'Let him stay [in the UK]. Those are too many expenses. Soil is just soil.'
According to the postmortem examination, the cause of death was multiple injuries.
London police had pursued several lines of inquiry in the investigation, including liaising with the Kenyan authorities, but were unable to establish Manyasi's identity until Sky News' investigation.
