On Tuesday, Bomet Governor Hilary Barchok forwarded the name of County Speaker David Rotich to the assembly alongside other appointees to various positions at the executive.

Rotich's nomination has sparked a heated debate among Members of the County Assembly, with some expressing anger over the move.

Despite calls from the Council of Governors to appoint a woman to the position in honor of the late Governor Joyce Laboso, Barchok has chosen Rotich, a former Jubilee secretary general in Bomet County.

Rotich is set to appear before the Assembly committee on Appointments for vetting, which has seven days to report its findings to the House for debate and approval.

Leader of Majority Josphat Kirui has assured women that their issues will be taken care of despite earlier calls to nominate a woman to take up the position.

Rotich's nomination has been welcomed by Jubilee party chairman Bernard Mutai, who said he was up to the task and had amassed enough experience to take up the position.
