On November 12, 2019, the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) Board of Directors announced the appointment of George Njao as the new Director General, effective immediately.
Acting Board Chairperson Dr. Alice Chesire commended the outgoing DG, Francis Meja, for his service, stating that he had provided 'seamless and efficient services to the public by employing the latest technology in service delivery and consolidated the Authority's services on one online platform known as the Transport Integrated Management System (TIMS)'. Dr. Chesire also acknowledged Mr. Meja's efforts in restoring sanity on the roads through the development of rules and regulations that have shaped the operation of the public transport sector in Kenya.
Dr. Chesire further announced three new appointments to the NTSA management: Badu Katelo as Director Road Safety, Christopher Wanjau as Director Registration and Licensing, and Shalakha Shem as Deputy Director Supply Chain Management.
George Njao, the new Director General, brings over 15 years of experience in the transport sector, specifically in safety management. He holds a Master's degree and a Bachelor of Science degree from Central Missouri State University, USA.
