On March 25, 2019, at around 19:00hrs, a 28-year-old man from Shinyalu in western Kenya attempted to cook his three-week-old baby after a bitter fight with his wife.

The man, identified as Mirimo, took his infant daughter and tried to shove her into a boiling three-legged pot but failed because the pot was full of pumpkins and mealies.

According to area police spokesperson Geoffrey Omole, Mirimo is in police custody and is helping with investigations.

Omole confirmed the heinous incident, stating, "We received a report of a man who killed his three-weeks-old daughter under bizarre circumstances. I can confirm the man is in police custody and is helping us do our investigations."

It is alleged that Mirimo's wife, Anita, received a text message and asked her husband to read it for her due to her failing eyesight. However, Mirimo became angry and threw the phone into the fire, prompting Anita to retrieve it and admonish him.

After a physical altercation between the couple, Mirimo allegedly attacked his wife with a blunt object and then picked up their three-week-old baby and smashed her head onto the floor.

He then attempted to shove the child into a three-legged pot on the fireplace but failed because it was full of pumpkins and mealies.

Fortunately, a villager, Dikinya, came back and tried to administer first aid to the baby, but it was too late as the child had already died.

The old lady then called other villagers and effected a citizen's arrest against Mirimo before he was handed over to the police.
